‘The Brutalist,’ which also stars Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce and Joe Alwyn, releases in theaters Dec. 20
Adrien Brody is bringing one of awards season’s buzziest — and lengthiest — movies to theaters.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, A24 released the trailer for its upcoming movie The Brutalist, an epic mid-20th century story in which Brody, 51, portrays a European architect who moves to the United States after World War II and sets out to find work — and greatness — in a new country.
Brody, an Oscar winner for his leading role in 2003’s The Pianist, costars in the film with Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, Isaach De Bankolé and Alessandro Nivola.

“Escaping post-war Europe, visionary architect László Toth arrives in America to rebuild his life, his work, and his marriage to his wife Erzsébet after being forced apart during wartime by shifting borders and regimes,” reads an official synopsis for the upcoming movie. “On his own in a strange new country, László settles in Pennsylvania, where the wealthy and prominent industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren recognizes his talent for building. But power and legacy come at a heavy cost…”
The Brutalist made its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in September and also played at the Toronto Film Festival and New York Film Festival this fall; the movie has gained significant attention for its lengthy runtime and mid-film intermission, and Corbet won Venice’s Silver Lion award for best director at the Italian film festival. Alwyn, 33, and Laird, 26, shared photos from the movie’s production on Instagram back in April 2023, shortly after the movie began filming in Hungary.

The new movie is written and directed by Brady Corbet, who made the 2018 drama Vox Lux that starred Natalie Portman as a troubled pop star and featured original music by Sia. The filmmaker also directed a music video for Maya Hawke in 2022 as well as three episodes of Tom Holland’s miniseries The Crowded Room.
