Kate Middleton was just an ordinary girl during her school days and she was a model student who enjoyed listening to her Walkman and watching Friends.

Marlborough College, one of the UK’s most prestigious schools, has been home to many famous faces. From poets and artists to comedians, the £42,930-a-year school ($55,730) is also the former school of the Princess of Wales.

In 1996, a then 14-year-old Kate arrived at the Wiltshire-based school as a shy teenager. She transferred there from Downe House after reportedly being bullied.

Her dorm mate, Gemma Williamson, has remembered Kate as being “thin and pale”, with her house tutor, Joan Gall, adding that Kate suffered from eczema due to stress. However, Kate quickly found her footing at Marlborough and settled into the school.

During her time there, Kate blossomed as she socialized and picked up new sports. She became co-captain of the tennis team and was a standout hockey player, according to the Daily Mail

Kate’s sporty habits continue to this day. In a more official capacity, Kate is the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and the Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football League.

Friends of the Princess of Wales recalled her being an exemplary student, kind-hearted, diligent and always surrounded by a tight-knit group of friends. Kate was known for avoiding trouble, even when her friends would sneak off to Reading for nights out.

The only time she got into mischief was after an all-night hockey party, where she ended up being sick on the train. Like many of her peers, Kate enjoyed simple pleasures: listening to her Walkman, watching the popular TV show Friends and eating Marmite sandwiches during her downtime.

Friends, which aired from 1994 to 2004, became one of the most cherished TV shows globally. Set in New York City, it chronicled the lives of six close friends – Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe – as they navigated life, love, and careers in their 20s and 30s.

By the time she graduated from Marlborough, Kate had blossomed into a confident, stunning young woman. After scoring two As and a B in her A-levels, she took a gap year before securing a spot at St Andrews University. It was there that she met Prince William, her future husband.
