Patrick Mahomes called on the Kansas City Chiefs to display greater offensive urgency as the Super Bowl champions look to bounce back from a first loss of the 2024 season.
On Sunday in Week 11, the Chiefs suffered their first loss of the 2024 NFL season as Josh Allen led the Buffalo Bills to a thrilling win thanks to his sublime late rushing touchdown. Mahomes and co. entered Highmark Stadium with a perfect 9-0 record, but fell 30-21.
Allen scored on an incredible 26-yard rush on fourth down before Mahomes was intercepted as he attempted a deep ball on fourth-and-13 to seal the result. Mahomes finished with 196 passing yards and three touchdowns, along with two interceptions thrown on his first and last passes of the day.
The defeat means the Chiefs will not join the 1972 Miami Dolphins, who won the Super Bowl with a perfect record. While Mahomes may be frustrated he has not achieved an undefeated season for another year, the two-time NFL MVP is focused on his team getting back to winning ways in Week 12.
Its a good football team, so theres nothing to hang your head on, Mahomes said, via Pro Football Talk. We feel like we can play better, so we will get back to work and try to use this as a spark so that we can be a better football team in the end. The undefeated thing was cool, but thats not our ultimate goal Im hoping that it is a benefit.
Mahomes and the Chiefs became the first back-to-back Super Bowl champions since Tom Bradys 2004-2005 New England Patriots, and the AFC West franchise is looking to make history by accomplishing the first-ever three-peat. The 29-year-old hopes the loss will serve as a wake-up call for the Chiefs.

Im not going to say I or we relaxed, but at the same time I feel like we were just coming away with these wins at the end of the game, Mahomes added. I think its going to spark us to have more urgency, especially at the start of football games, especially with the offense, and that comes from me and turning the ball over on the first drive. Its something you cant do in big games like this.
Just as whispers of an unbeaten season began to get louder, the Chiefs have gone from comparing themselves to the 1972 Dolphins to awkwardly peeking over their shoulder to the 2024 Bills. Suddenly, Buffalo are just one loss behind Kansas City in the standings and have the head-to-head tiebreaker clinched. Kansas City will look to return to winning ways against the 3-7 Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Nov. 24.
