UK singer and television personality Tulisa has publicly identified as demisexual during her appearance on the latest season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!. The revelation came amidst a candid discussion about her personal life on Tuesday, as reported by The Independent.
Tulisa, a former judge on The X Factor, is among the ten celebrities competing in the reality series in Australia. During a conversation about dating with her fellow contestants, the 36-year-old shared that she has been celibate for over three years. “Even though I’ve been on there, I’ve never gone on an actual date with anyone on there. I’m proper guarded,” Tulisa stated, highlighting her reluctance to engage with dating apps.
She further explained her demisexuality, a sexual orientation where attraction occurs only after forming a deep emotional bond. “I feel like I’m demisexual, I need to have a really close emotional bond with someone… I need actual depth. I’m a slow, slow burner,” Tulisa added. She emphasized the importance of emotional connection, saying it makes her feel “physically sick” to imagine sleeping with or dating someone without that bond. “This is my temple, you cannot enter!” she asserted.
Discussing her relationship status, Tulisa expressed contentment with being single. “I actually do enjoy being single, I enjoy being on my own,” she remarked, underscoring her preference for solitude and self-reliance.
Demisexuality, as defined by The Independent, is a sexual orientation where individuals experience sexual attraction only after establishing a strong emotional connection. The term was coined in 2006 on a web forum dedicated to asexuality, and its prevalence remains unclear. According to a 2021 British census, 0.06% of people in the UK identify as asexual.
