Country Eggs recalls cage-free brown eggs in California and Nevada after a salmonella outbreak sickened 95 people across 14 U.S. states.
California & Nevada — Country Eggs, LLC has issued a major recall of its large cage-free brown eggs after a salmonella outbreak sickened at least 95 people across 14 states, including 73 cases in California alone, health officials confirmed.
The recalled products include Sunshine Yolks and Omega-3 Golden Yolks branded large cage-free brown eggs, distributed in California and Nevada under various retailers such as Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho, and Nijiya Markets. The affected cartons carry the plant code CA-7695 with expiration dates ranging from July 1 to September 18, 2025.
So far, 18 hospitalizations have been reported, though no deaths have been linked to the outbreak. Cases were recorded between January 7 and July 26, 2025, suggesting that more illnesses may yet be identified as investigations continue.
The CDC and FDA, alongside local health agencies, are urging consumers to immediately discard or return the recalled eggs and thoroughly clean any surfaces or utensils that may have come into contact with them.
“We are committed to cooperating fully with regulators and prioritizing consumer safety,” Country Eggs said in a statement, confirming it has temporarily halted production of the affected products.
Health officials warn that salmonella infection can cause diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, and, in severe cases, hospitalization. Vulnerable groups—including young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems—are at higher risk of severe illness.
Despite the recall being limited to California and Nevada, health experts caution that distribution chains may have carried the products beyond state lines, widening exposure risks.
As investigations continue, U.S. consumers are advised to check their egg cartons carefully and follow recall instructions to reduce the risk of further infections.
